The 45-year-old pastor Johannes cannot overcome the death of his son. The relationship with his wife Katharina is also threatening to break down. Abandoned by faith and hope, he no longer sees himself in a position to proclaim the tidings of joy and to exercise his profession. Johannes slides into a deep crisis of meaning. He staggers between different states of perception. The pastor no longer seems to be master of himself, wants to escape the oppressive situation. However, he is caught up in the past and becomes entangled in a dark, uncanny story in which the boundaries between reality and imagination, consciousness and unconsciousness, life and death become increasingly blurred. A film about unprocessed grief and the fluid boundaries of our consciousness.
